If you like the whimsical cartoon style of this year's Minnesota State Fair commemorative poster, you will be happy not to put it on one (or four) buttons at the 2022 St. Paul Winter Carnival. The same artist Kevin Cannon (Kevin Cannon) created this painting for both.

The four button designs for the 2022 Winter Carnival were unveiled at the Sao Paulo Union Warehouse on Saturday, December 4 as part of the festive tree lights celebrations.

These buttons are priced at US$5 or a four-pack of US$19. They can be purchased at Cub Foods, Spire Credit Union, some regional companies and the Winter Carnival website (wintercarnival.com/buttons/).

Cartoonist and illustrator Cannon was born and raised in St. Louis Park and is known for his detailed cartoon maps in the Star Tribune in Minneapolis and his all-ages graphic novel "Introduction to Philosophy Cartoon".

Cannon said that his artistic career started very early. He used Mr. Sketch's marker to paint on the foam core fragments of his uncle's photography studio. He studied studio art at Grinnell College in Iowa and moved back to the Twin Cities after living briefly in London and Manhattan. He draws children's books and creates illustrations for clients such as Apple, Harvard University, and the U.S. Naval Academy, as well as publications such as "Voice of the Country", "Minnesota Monthly" and Mpls.St.Paul Magazine.

According to a press release from the Winter Carnival, Cannon said he is a fan of Minnesota's winter activities and all cold things. He was the captain of the Nordic ski team in high school and became a fanatic of polar expeditions in his 20s. He went to Ernest Shackleton and the famous James Caird in London. He made a pilgrimage and set his first two graphic novels in the Arctic region of Canada.

Cannon told the Winter Carnival: "As a child in Minnesota, he spends as much outdoors as possible every winter. It is easy to find the inspiration for the button art of the St. Paul Winter Carnival in 2022. There is a way in winter that you don’t see in other seasons. The beauty of the freshness, its opposite colors have a natural duality-ice blue and fire red-I use a lot in my paintings. I know that some people outside of this state will see that winter is Desolate, lonely and miserable, but this season, its frosty beauty and countless activities have been living in my mind, vibrant and colorful, and I try my best to guide the energy into the illustrations of these four buttons. "

He and his wife Maggie live in Mounds View; their son Ulysses.

The 136th Sao Paulo Winter Carnival will be held from January 28th to February. 6.
