Despite this year's planned festivities, many Arlington residents may opt to stay home as the state experiences a surge in daily coronavirus cases thanks to the fast-spreading omicron variant.

The Virginia Department of Health reported 12,112 new positive cases of the coronavirus on Wednesday, a one-day record for the state since the start of the pandemic in March 2020.

Arlington Public Health recommends that people who feel sick to limit the number of trips outside the home.

The best way to protect yourself and prevent spreading COVID-19 is to be vaccinated and to receive a booster if you are eligible to do so. Wear a mask indoors when you are around others outside your home. In addition, test yourself if you have been exposed to COVID-19 or if you have the symptoms.
