what is this? An electric Porsche with the GTS badge? surely not? The three letters mean more agility, precision, drama and endurance. 2.3 Is the Taycan worthy of such a label?

Based purely on the nomenclature, you might argue that the Gran Turismo Sport version is more meaningful than the top Taycan Turbo, considering that electric cars do not have a turbocharger. When even large old Cayenne SUVs now have GTS derivatives—in fact, all Porsche model series now have one—why not use Taycan?

But to truly win the GTS badge, Porsche needs to do something special with the car. So what have we done to differentiate it from the rest of the series, and what aspects of the new Taycan GTS can be revealed for a day on the track?

Taycan GTS has two body styles. The new Sport Turismo version adds a car and provides extra luggage space and rear headroom. Think of Cross Turismo without a jack-up suspension. Obviously, eventually all versions of GTS will be equipped with Sport Turismo load traction rear end.

Both types of machines are beautiful, but placing the Turbo and GTS cars side by side makes it difficult to see the difference at first glance, so put the badge aside. The GTS even has the same rear diffuser geometry as the Turbo and runs on standard 20-inch Taycan Turbo S Aero Design wheels.

The aesthetic changes are subtle, including black trim everywhere, such as the Porsche badge front apron, rear view mirror base and side window trim, and the optional 21-inch RS Spyder Design wheels in satin black-this is Unique GTS.

GTS also comes standard with the Sport Design package, which means that the more targeted front skirts, rear skirts and side skirts are finished in bright black, while the smoked LED driving lights with black trim on the front are more concise.

With Sport Turismo, you can add bike racks and roof rails, but if you go to the track, it’s best to remove them.

The black theme continues in the Taycan GTS spaceship-like cabin. The black "Race-Tex" (essentially another name for Alcantara) cloth covers the center console and the electrically adjustable sports seats (including side cushions and seat bases). Adjustment) to help fix the thinner frame). Race-Tex also outfits the roof lining and rear seats, and all four benches are heated and leather lining. Brushed aluminum elements also help GTS stand out.

The important thing is that the beautiful envelopment of the Taycan cockpit still exists. The driver feels that he is part of the car. Their back is almost enough to scratch the asphalt, while the tall, wide, and straight dashboard constitutes the front view.

Thanks to GTS’s party work, the interior of the Sport Turismo is bathed in sunlight: the world’s first panoramic sunroof with what Porsche calls “sunlight control”-the glass is divided into nine parts, and the LCD part can be individually turned into by control Opaque main touch screen. Swipe your finger up to create shadows from back to front, just like using ordinary fabric roof blinds, or select panels individually. It may be a gimmick, but this is a characteristic of selling cars, and Porsche claims that its panels are better than traditional glass roofs in terms of “insulation”.

Speaking of touch screens, considering that Tesla prefers a single (albeit larger) central display, the Taycan is equipped with four touch screens, which makes people laugh. Porsche clearly believes that quantity is as important as quality, if it is to differentiate itself, despite the typical Porsche accuracy when designing the menu system, and somehow they will not make the driver too much information, nor will it Disperse the important responsibilities of stepping on the road; they are part of the seamless integration of man and machine. There is no doubt that passengers will like to use their own displays, capable of displaying navigation, media, telephone or driver display information.

GTS includes the Sport Chrono package as standard, but for anyone who doubts its intention to focus on the track, Porsche also offers its Track Precision app—usually reserved for two-door sports cars—available. When loaded on your smartphone, the car will transmit GPS-based lateral force, acceleration, braking and speed data in real time during a lap of a specific track so that you can analyze your performance lap by lap. There is no need to start and stop the lap timer-it will run automatically when you cross the starting point to the finish line-and your smartphone can also be used to record lap videos.

All of this comes from four real four-seaters. The rear space of the car is good for everyone except the tallest adult, but if the rear passengers may be frequent, then Sport Turismo is the first choice because it provides an extra 45 mm of headroom. The rear luggage capacity has been increased from 407 liters to 446 liters, with a more convenient hatchback start (please forgive the pun). Folding Sport Turismo’s 60:40 split rear seats and 1,200 liters are available. Both cars have an additional 84-liter storage box under the hood.

Porsche staff kept repeating a word on the GTS media drive: "emotion." They told us that GTS is "the most emotional in Taycan". It is "soul, electrify".

People have to assume that these targeted efforts are because many respected automotive journalists find that the Taycan is undeniably impressive in performance, but it is somewhat lacking in heart. This is a problem that many petrol-headed electric vehicles encounter when they use electric vehicles-yes, they are fast, but do they stimulate your sensitive areas like the Porsche 911 GT3?

Taycan GTS is specifically designed to solve these problems; the "sports sweet spot" of the model series. Stripping the face of marketing and determining whether it succeeded in achieving its goals is a tricky business-after all, we are talking about feelings rather than objective issues. But what did Porsche engineers do to the car in the process of trying to tune into the fun?

If the heart of a car is its power plant, let us start from there. During the launch control period, the Taycan GTS can provide 510bhp of power, or up to 590bhp of supercharged power, which is between Taycan 4S (483/563bhp) and Taycan Turbo (617/671bhp) in terms of power, closely following other GTS Porsches Later.

I like this because it shows that Porsche knows that power alone cannot bring a good driving experience. Found that the Taycan Cross Turismo Turbo S is too much for the English country trails (in my opinion, you only need to care about driving Top Trumps to choose it instead of 4S), and it is gratifying to find that the Porsche is pointing in the middle-the power model as a real Driver's car.

Having said that, looking at the torque data, you will notice that GTS and Turbo have exactly the same impact: 626 lb ft. It also shares the same dual motors with Turbo, although their performance is specifically adjusted for GTS, it only really becomes apparent in processing (see more below).

And, of course, it’s not inferior: 0-62mph takes only 3.7 seconds, which is pretty good for a car with a fat man behind the steering wheel and the same weight as the new Range Rover. The two-speed gearbox facilitates the initial speed shift.

Put your feet in Sport Plus mode (Range, Normal, Sport and Individual are other options), Taycan GTS can fix you on the seat and on any super sports car, even though Porsche is trying to use its fake "Electric Sport" "Increase emotional sound" is a note in the whole music. In fact, it’s a bit ridiculous—especially when the gearbox is downshifted and you receive a “throttle signal”—and this technique actually reduces the driver’s Engage instead of increasing it. Fortunately, it can be turned off via the touch screen.

On the bright side, one thing Taycan doesn’t lack is the range: on hybrid roads, the GTS is Taycan, and it should be able to travel the farthest per charge: according to the official WLTP cycle, it can reach 313 miles, compared to , 4S has a cruising range of up to 290 miles.

When you really need to charge the battery, the 850v system can perform 270kW DC ultra-fast charging, which means that under optimal conditions, it can charge 5-80% in 22.5 minutes. Currently, there are few public chargers that can provide this kind of service, but they are installed every day. It takes 9 hours to fully charge at home with an 11kW wallbox, which means that most owners wake up every morning to see a fully charged battery.

Although I drove the GTS Sport Turismo on the road, I can't tell you how it feels for about 10 days. However, I can say that the performance of the GTS on the track (we do not explain why...), and it is here that the true characteristics of the car begin to emerge.

I have already mentioned that this car weighs 2.3 tons. From a perspective, this is equivalent to two entry-level Ford Fiesta. Of course, this car has no business on the track-Colin Chapman, the founder of Lotus, known for the "increasing lightness" slogan, must be spinning in his grave-but the weight of the GTS has been amazingly compensated for. A combination of Michelin Pilot Sport tires (our test car uses 21-inch rims instead of 20-inch standard parts), rear wheel steering (an alternative), and adaptive air suspension.

The latter is specifically adjusted for the GTS. Compared with the Taycan Turbo, it provides a more neutral balance when turning, and the front end is more willing to turn at a higher speed. The four-wheel drive system is also more towards the rear end, even with traction control, you can feel the car spin around the hairpin bend when power is applied.

The car's quality and stability system means that the power when cornering is not as lively as it thinks, but the oversteer can be controlled as needed, which means that it is absolutely fun.

Thanks to the optional carbon ceramic brakes, our Taycan GTS test car slowed down without any problems. I recommend using these for rail applications, although the standard six-piston aluminum device should be sufficient for other places. Porsche prefers coasting instead of regenerative braking as a way to increase the normal mode range, but switching to sport and sport enhancement will result in a certain amount of "engine braking", which is absolutely useful for eliminating extra speed on the track and extending life. Your brake pads.

Therefore, although weight is always the enemy on the track, the Taycan GTS is far from being an inert track car. Somehow, when jumping from corner to corner, it even feels very ballet and has a strong sense of sharp turns. Braking force and controlled powerful acceleration at the exit. When the traction control is enabled, when the electronic system supplies power to all four corners and the GTS supplies power to the next vertex, a rubber band-like effect is produced, but on the long back straight of the Mallorca circuit, there is no drop-keep pulling To the top speed we indicated 192 km/h (120 mph), then brake harder and enter the following hairpin.

The 2022 Porsche Taycan GTS is now on sale, with prices starting at £104,190 for cars and £104,990 for Sport Turismo models. As always, the options will greatly increase the cost of the car: the 21-inch RS Spyder wheels installed on our test car will cost you £1,860, while the rear-wheel steering and ceramic brakes are £1,650 and £6,902, respectively.

Delivery is expected to begin in the spring of 2022.

Due to the track focus of this model, there are currently few electric cars that can match it, but in terms of performance, the new BMW i4 M50 is definitely competitive, and the price is more affordable about 40,000 pounds. Tesla is the obvious accelerator for electric vehicles. The Model 3 Performance reaches 60 mph faster and should be able to go farther on each charge, but I doubt whether it will be fast or complete on the track.

Then, of course, it is worth paying attention to Audi's sister car RS e-tron GT, which is priced at 113,915 pounds, and theoretically, it is actually slightly faster than 62 mph. This will be an interesting circuit comparison.

When I reviewed the 911 GT3 earlier this year, I said it was the most interesting car I have ever experienced on the track. This is still the case-Taycan GTS cannot beat it in terms of excitement. But as the first example of how Porsche intends to make electric car driving on the track interesting, they have done an amazing job. This is by far the most attractive electric car. A driver's car, I dare say, emotional.
