NFU officials have urged farmers to gear up for Back British Farming Day ahead of the event later this autumn.

The seventh annual Back British Farming Day will take place on Wednesday 2 November to celebrate and promote the positive aspects of the sector.

NFU officials said it was more important than ever for farmers, MPs and the public to show support for Britain’s food producers.

Home-grown food supplies have become increasingly important amid global issues such as the war in Ukraine that have caused disruption to the food supply chain.

The day of celebration will help demonstrate the positive role played by British farmers in providing the nation’s food.

The NFU has readied a wide range of content for broadcast, print and social media channels. It will also share some of the 3,000 photos that have been submitted by the public to the Best of British Farming photo competition.

But the NFU stressed it wanted as many farmers and growers as possible to join in on social media.

Union officials asked farmers and farm staff to post positive content about the work they did and state why they were proud to produce food for the nation.

Politicians will again be encouraged to show their support by wearing the iconic wheatsheaf lapel pin badge associated with the farming day.

Last year, senior politicians, including then prime minister Boris Johnson and Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer, wore the badge in the House of Commons.

Jeremy Clarkson also played a major role, helping to launch a farming report and taking part in an interview with The Sun newspaper where he urged the public to back British farmers.

Mr Clarkson backed up the message with a string of positive social media posts throughout the day.
