The Register’s annual great Iowa cycling event has been open for registration in 2022, but there is a major change: the one-week cycling event no longer requires a lottery draw.

The organizers of RAGBRAI stated that the move "allows riders to plan RAGBRAI from the moment they pay the registration fee." There are still caps on the number of riders (10,000) and non-riders in a week, such as drivers who accompany riders to provide support. But now registration will be done on a first-come, first-served basis.

RAGBRAI stated that the wristband number will be released in May, and anyone who seeks to register after reaching the upper limit will be placed on the waiting list and will be notified if there are other registrations after the registration ends on April 1.

The rider registration fee for the week before February 28th is 175 USD, after that it is 190 USD. The one-week registration fee for non-riders is $35. Registration includes luggage transportation, ride support and equipment (SAG) vans, route maps, embroidered patches, supplier discounts, and long-term parking at the start and end of the route. It also helps pay for various services, including traffic control by the Iowa State Patrol, accompanying ambulances and paramedics, bicycle repair stations, camping, shuttles, entertainment, route markings, etc.

In addition to the one-week registration, riders can also register for a day pass. By May 1st, the fee was 35 USD, by June 1st it rose to 40 USD, and between July 23rd and 30th it rose to 45 USD.
