Stray is currently the highest user-rated game on Steam this year, replacing God of War.

The list has been created by Steam250, which ranks games based on how many positive votes are provided alongside Steam reviews. Stray has a score of 8.61, which is based on 98% of 42,655 votes being positive. God of War has a score of 8.56, with 97% of 53,101 votes being positive.

Stray is currently 49th on Steam250’s all-time chart. The top five games are Portal 2, Terraria, Stardew Valley, Hades, and People Playground.

Stray is a third-person cat adventure game set in a cyber city. The player must solve a mystery to help the cat and its robot companion B-12 to escape the city.

The game was released on 19 July 2022, and it has been developed by BlueTwelve Studio, and published by Annapurna Interactive.

On release day, the game’s peak concurrent player count on Steam reached over 62,000, which has surpassed Annapurna’s previous record of 8021 peak concurrent players for their interactive thriller Twelve Minutes.

It has received mostly positive reviews from critics, with Ari Notis from Kotaku describing it as “a deeply profound meditation on what it means to be alive”, and Chris Scullion from VGC praising the game’s mechanics and graphics, but criticising its short plot.

The game can be purchased through Steam and the PlayStation Store. A physical copy for PlayStation will be available to buy from 20 September. The collector’s edition includes the game, a poster of the teaser image, six art cards and a Chenille patch of the cat.
