Classic Porsche legend Tuthill will make a “small series” of these glorious 911Ks

If you’re into your classic Porsches, or if you paid close attention to Singer’s bonkers 911 Safari-style All-terrain Competition Study, then you’ll most likely have heard the name Richard Tuthill.

Richard runs Tuthill Porsche, which can do all manner of things to just about any 911 you wish, but its specialism is historic motorsport prep for both racing and rallying. Yeah, pretty cool we agree.

Now though, all of that knowledge has been put into a road car, and oh boy it is glorious. Just drink in those details in the gallery above. Tuthill’s creation is called the 911K and it uses a 3.1-litre four-valve engine that revs to, wait for it... 11,000rpm. Oh yes. There’s no word on power, but the real headline figure here is the wet weight of 850kg. We’ve eaten lunches heavier than that.

And as you remember that Singer has stopped taking orders for its ‘Classic’ 911 – instead heading into the land of the Turbo – this featherweight, high-revving effort starts to look even more appealing.

“There are so many great people in the world building amazing Porsche 911s it's sometimes quite daunting to roll your sleeves up and get stuck in,” says Tuthill himself.

“That said, my experience over the last few years, when combined with an extremely enthusiastic and supportive friend and client, was enough to do exactly that.

“This one is for the drivers and quite honestly, I never imagined it could ever be what it has already become, and we’ve only just started.

“Weight is always king and the fun of driving a lightweight car when combined with what I believe to be the most exciting engine I have ever experienced and a chassis that gives one unrivalled compliance on wonderfully diverse backroads has redefined what I thought was possible.”

Sounds a little bit special, doesn’t it? We’ll hear more details in due course, but for now just know that it uses a six-speed manual gearbox, carbon ceramic brakes, rally spec dampers, a titanium roll cage and hydraulic handbrake. Pretty much every panel is made from carbon fibre too. Heck, even the Fuchs-style wheels are woven and the Porsche crest up front is hand-painted to save weight.

No word on price yet sadly, but Tuthill has confirmed it plans to make a “small series” of these restomods for a few extremely lucky individuals. Jealous, us? Never...
