BRIDGEWATER, NJ — The Somerset County 4-H Fair is back after having to cancel the past two years due to COVID.

The fair this year will return to North Branch Park at 355 Milltown Road in Bridgewater on Aug. 10 to 12 from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.

The fair is free and open to people of all ages. It will showcase art, animal, and science displays, as well as hands-on demonstrations, shows and exhibits, food, live music, free parking, and much more.

As the largest free 4-H Fair in the state, Somerset County 4-H Fair typically attracts more than 60,000 visitors, and in 2020 it was named "Outstanding Event" by Somerset County Tourism. A County tradition since 1947, the fair receives major funding from the Somerset County Board of Commissioners.

"The return of the Somerset County 4-H Fair is just what our county needs. 4-H is such an important part of the County’s culture and community," said County Commissioner Director Shanel Y. Robinson.

"4-H is proud to be a long-standing staple of Somerset County by providing a place for all community members to come together," said Lisa Rothenburger, the County Extension Department Head who oversees the fair. "Generations of county residents have looked forward to this event, and we couldn’t be happier to be bringing the magic back after a two-year absence."

Here are some of the events planned for the fair:

Visit the 4-H Fair Show Tent to see shows featuring cows, sheep, alpacas and more. The animals raised by 4-H Fair youth will be displayed all three days of the fair.

Stop by the Art and Science Tents to see projects created over the past year by 4-H members, such as anime and creative writing. At the Robotics Tent, 4-H members will host demonstrations featuring their science projects. Visitors will have a chance to participate in hands-on activities, such as building with LEGOS or spin art.

Radio-controlled cars, model airplanes that fly and trains will also be on display.

Enjoy your favorite fair food in the Food Tent, where local non-profit organizations and businesses will serve their cuisine.

No one will want to miss the Revolutionary War reenactors located at the entrance of the County Government Tent. Step into the tent where this year’s theme is “The Beauty of Somerset County,” which will be woven into games and demonstrations held in the tent throughout all three days of the fair.

Visitors of all ages will have the opportunity to enter prize drawings, play games, win prizes, and partake in hands-on demonstrations such as button making, hat making, origami flower making, butter making, and story time. Take a “Where Is This?” quiz for a chance to win tickets to the Somerset County Patriots, and also learn about the many services the County has to offer.
